Pawprint Mission Statement
Pawprint is a biweekly newspaper produced by and for the Cornell community to inform, recognize employee achievements, promote communication, and provide an outlet for Cornell Employees.
Pawprint Volunteer Opportunities
The Pawprint Editorial board is made up of volunteers working with a paid editor and a paid editorial assistant. The board is responsible for providing ideas about news articles, shaping new issues, providing insight to assist in the production process, and reviewing the last published issue during each meeting. Many board members assist in the feedback and idea generation aspects of the paper while others participate in additional roles. The board convenes every other Friday except in the summer months when they meet only once before each monthly issue. The normal publication schedule is every other Thursday.
General Board Member
Writing and editing are NOT necessary! A large part of the paper production consists of the exploration of ideas pertaining to what is reported and not the reporting itself. Pawprint always welcomes the voice of its constituents in whatever form it takes. While 100% participation is appreciated, volunteers are not penalized for being able to contribute on an irregular schedule.
Department Contact
Provide calendar or news items to Pawprint. May provide circulation information if their department proactively distributes to each employee.
Building Contact
Provides information about circulation within a building if for that building there is only a centralized drop-off point for the paper.
Writer
Pawprint does not have a rigid format for assigning stories to volunteers. People who have an idea for an article they wish to write, or would like to write regularly for the paper are invited to join the board.
Proofreader (AKA Proofer)
In an effort to eliminate mistakes in spelling, grammar, and general information, Pawprint invites board members to proofread the paper on the Tuesday before publication. The task takes approximately one hour. Multiple proofers are enlisted to ensure the greatest likelihood that mistakes have been corrected before publishing the final edition.
